We will be hosting a hybrid event October 1-3, 2021, with programming available at the Wellstone Center in Saint Paul, MN as well as online!
Have you ever wanted to be involved in planning the oldest and largest conference for the bi+ community in the United States? Volunteer to be a BECAUSE co-chair!
BECAUSE (Bisexual Empowerment Conference: A Uniting, Supportive Experience) is a program of Bisexual Organizing Project (BOP), by, for, and about the community of people attracted to more than one gender who may use labels such as bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, or no label at all (bi+). Founded in 1992, BECAUSE has long been a space for connecting and building in bi+ community by providing workshops, community activities, keynote addresses, community meals, and entertainment that center and celebrate the diverse lived experiences of bi+ individuals. Current BECAUSE policies can be reviewed at www.becauseconference.org.
The BECAUSE Conference seeks one individual to be co-chair for BECAUSE 2022 with co-chair trainee and current BOP board member Sirius Chessmore. This is a three year commitment. The outline of the timeline of this commitment is as follows:
Now - October 2021: Trainee with the current co-chairs,
February - October 2022: Co-chair of BECAUSE 2022 and trainer for the BECAUSE 2023 co-chairs,
February - October 2023: As mentor to the BECAUSE 2023 co-chairs.
Co-chairs are responsible to the BOP board of directors for overseeing all aspects of the BECAUSE conference including fundraising, promotions, programming, meals, entertainment, etc. BECAUSE has existing experienced volunteers and continues to grow its pool of year-to-year volunteers. In addition to a year of training with the current co-chairs, trainees will have written resources and a well developed framework in which to select guest presenters and programming they determine will be of benefit to the bi+ community.
BECAUSE encourages trans, BIPOC and youth to consider this position. All BECAUSE co-chairs should identify as someone attracted to more than one gender. If you are interested in the co-chair trainee position, or would like more information, please contact:
October 1 - 3, 2021
St Paul, MN
We hope you will join us for the BECAUSE Conference as it's never been before: a hybrid event of in-person and online workshops, speakers, and social events. With Zoom producers and experienced programming staff, we are developing a new way of experiencing BECAUSE while keeping all the engagement, support, and community that has been at the core of the conference for the last 29 years.
Build, serve and advocate for an empowered bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, and unlabeled (bi+) community to promote social justice.
Within the next five years grow Bisexual Organizing Project (BOP) into a successfully-run Upper Midwest nonprofit organization with annual funding of $100,000 that provides community building, education, and advocacy for the bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, and unlabeled (bi+) community and our allies.
