Friday, June 14th 6-9 pm.
This event is FREE and open to all. Bisexual Organizing Project - BOP will be facilitating a flag making art studio. Join us for a free evening of readings, performances, and gallery conversations exploring LGBTQ+ identities and reflecting on the significance of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Co-curated by poet, politician, and transgender rights activist Andrea Jenkins. Hear readings from the new anthology "Queer Voices: Poetry, Prose, and Pride" (MNHS Press, May 2019) by authors John Medeiros, Andrea Jenkins, Lisa Marie Brimmer, Anthony Ceballos, and Kimberly Brown. Enjoy pop-up activations in the galleries by performance artists. Take a tour of art in the collection that reflects the social and cultural constructions of gender, sexuality, and identity. Watch the film Stonewall Uprising, detailing the events surrounding the Stonewall riots in 1969, which marked a major turning point in the modern gay civil rights movement in the United States and around the world. Listen to music in the lobby, make art in the studios, add your story to a communal timeline with Telling Queer History and socialize with friends, new and old. BECAUSEBECAUSE 2020
BECAUSE 2020 Cancelled The BECAUSE leadership team and the BOP board have been reviewing forecasts for what this Fall will look like including continued COVID hotspots, limitations on travel, and how people are going to be feeling about being large groups. We feel the most responsible action at this time is to cancel BECAUSE 2020. We have explored moving the conference on line as many conferences and gatherings have done and find it is not the best option for BECAUSE. The BOP board is developing virtual community building that we hope will help bridge this time for our community. Please check out BOP's Facebook Page, Facebook Group, Meetup Group, and Twitter to stay informed of upcoming events. We are currently in discussion with our location, Wellstone Center, and our planned speakers and special guests to make BECAUSE 2021 one of the best ever. We hope you will join us in October 2021. MissionBuild, serve and advocate for an empowered bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, and unlabeled (bi+) community to promote social justice. Vision
Within the next five years grow Bisexual Organizing Project (BOP) into a successfully-run Upper Midwest nonprofit organization with annual funding of $100,000 that provides community building, education, and advocacy for the bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, and unlabeled (bi+) community and our allies.
